Cell Mediated Response Flashcards
What are lymphocytes
White blood cells involved in a specific immune response categorised into T or B cells
Where are T-cells produced
In the bone marrow and mature in the thymus
Where are B-cells produced
-in the bone marrow and mature there
Cell mediated response step by step
1-A phagocyte engulfs and try just a pathogen it presents the pathogen is antigens on the surface membrane
2-The T-helper cells have receptors in the surface and bind to the antigen on the antigen presenting cell
3-Once attached this activates the T-helper cells to divide by mitosis and make a large number of clones, clonal expansion
The cloned T-helper cells differentiate forming 4 cells what are they?
1- memory cells
2-some stimulate phagocytes to engulf pathogens
3-activate cytosine t-cells (killer T-cells)
4-some remain as T-helper cells and stimulate specific B-cells to divide and secrete antibodies
How do cytosine T-cells work
It releases a protein called Perofin which makes holes in the membrane of the target cell and makes it freely permeable and causes the cells to be destroyed most common in viral infections
What type of cells do t-lymphocytes respond to
-Antigen presenting phagocytes
-cells transplanted from a donor
-Cancer cells with altered surface antigens
-Virally infected cells are presenting same viral antigens on the membrane
