How has globalisation affected ethnicity?
- prior to 1980s education focused on assimilation into British culture
- 1980s-90s policies shifted to multicultural education. This raised self esteem & confidence therefore academic performance
What are criticisms of multicultural education?
- critical race theorists say it’s tokenism and doesn’t tackle institutional racism in schools
- black people aren’t failing due to lack of self esteem
- new right say it promotes division of ethnic groups
