The body

A

Cells- the building block of life
Tissues- a group of cells with a similar structure and function, e.g. muscle tissue
Organs- are collections of tissue performing specific functions. E.g. the stomach
Organs combine to make an organ system. E.g. the digestive system
Lots of organs make up the organism

The digestive system

A

Mouth- takes in food, breaks it down with teeth and mixes it with saliva
Oesophagus- transports the food to the stomach.
Stomach- churns the food and mix it with hydrochloric acid.
The small intestine- continues to digest and absorbs small soluble, molecules
Large intestines- are where water is absorbed from undigested material
Rectum- where faeces are stored
Anus- excretes faeces
