Cell Structure Flashcards
What is in an animal cell
Nucleus, cell membrane, cytoplasm, mitochondria, ribosomes.
What is in a plant cell? (8)
nucleus, ribosomes, mitochondria, cytoplasm, cell membrane, chloroplast, permanent vacuole, cell wall.
What is in a bacteria cell? (5)
cell membrane, cytoplasm, ribosome, cell wall, loop of DNA
Function of a nucleus?
Controls the cells activities and contains genetic material (DNA).
Function of the cell membrane?
Controls the passage of substances in and out of the cell.
Function of the cytoplasm?
a liquid gel where chemical reactions occur.
Function of the mitochondria?
where aerobic respiration occurs releasing energy for the cell.
Functions of the ribosomes
protein synthesis
Functions of the chloroplasts?
contains chlorophyll, which absorbs light for photosynthesis.
Function of the permanent vacuole?
filled with cell sap and keeps the cell rigid to support the plant
Function of the cell wall?
The outside layer of the cell, strengthens it , it is made of cellulose.
What are eukaryotic cells?
Animal, plant and fungi cells.
What are prokaryotic cells?
bacteria.
The function of a flagellum
To help bacteria move.
