An injury involving skin, subcutaneous tissues, muscle, ligament, tendon, nerve or blood vessel, capsule and/or cartilaginous structures

Define “closed fracture”
Injury whereby the skin is intact, no communication with surface and fracture is uncontaminated
Define “open fracture”
Injury whereby soft tissues and fracture breaks the skin, contaminated and there is a risk of infection
Define “un-displaced fracture”
A bone break in which cracks in the bone may radiate in several directions but the bone fragments do not separate
Define “displaced fracture”
A bone break in which the two ends of the broken bone are separated from one another
Define “avulsion fracture”
An injury to the bone in a location where a tendon or ligament attaches to the bone

An injury arising due to repeated abnormal stresses to normal bone
