causes of premature ovarian insufficiency
A
- idiopathic
- bilateral oophorectomy
- hysterectomy with preservation of ovaries has also been shown to advance the age of menopause
- radiotherapy/chemotherapy
- infection: e.g. mumps
- autoimmune disorders
- Resistant ovary syndrome (FSH receptor abnormalities)

A
- hot flushes, night sweats
- infertility
- secondary amenorrhoea

A
- raised FSH, LH levels
- low oestradiol

Management of premature ovarian insufficiency
A
HRT or COCP until average menopausal age
