Why do people pray?

A

Believe they can communicate with God and form a bridge between them
Prayer is a part of daily life, observant Jews will pray before completing a mitzvot, before going to bed and seeing unusual things like rainbows.
Three types: praising, requested and thanksgiving.
Some Jews its believe to recite them in English to understand them and some Hebrew as it connect Jews world life and considered a holy language

What is the amidah?

A

The amidah is a prayer at the core of every jewish worship service and is so important its often called the prayer

What happens during the Amidah?

A

Amidah means standing and so they do this throughout the prayer.
it has 18 blessings which forms the three types of prayer: praise, request, thanksgiving.
It’s recited silently and then repeated by the rabbi or cantor.

Why is it important?

A

It signifies being in God’s presence. It is said standing to show this and at the end three steps are taken backwards, bowing both sides and three steps taken forward to formally show retreating from God’ds symbolic presence.
