What will the Messiah do?

A

Many Jews pray for a messianic age which will be one of peace on earth, bring Jews back to Isreal and restore the Temple in Jerusalem.

Who will be the messiah?

A

Messiah comes from the Hebrew Masiach meaning “anointed” - refers to the placing of oil on the head of a king showing they are trusted by God and will have the authority of God to rule.
Traditional view from the Maimonides is that he will be a great political leader who will bring the world to an end.
For reform Jews they believe its important to focus on the good actions of humans that bring about the age of piece - everyone is a messiah and it is a collective effort
He will be descended from King David who was one of the most influential rulers in the Torah.

When will he come?

A

Orthodox Jews = God has a date for the coming of the messiah
Others believe the messiah will come when most needed

A

Othrodox will pray to God for the Messiah to come and bring about the Messianic age which will be a time of universal piece

Reform Jews will help to bring about the Messianic Age by living well and doing good mitzvot here and now such as supporting charities through donations or time or money.
