Origin: Thyrohyoid, basilhyoid
Insertion: Radix linguae
Action: Retract and depress the tongue
- Located under the Hypoglossal Nerve

Origin: Stylohyoid
Insertion: Middle of the tongue
Action: Retract and elevate the tongue
- Runs parallel to the Hypoglossal Nerve

N. mandibularis (CN-V3)
- Tactile, pain and thermal innervation
- Rostral 2/3 of the tongue

- Mechanical + chemoreceptor fibre innervation
- Whole tongue

- Becomes a. lingualis profundus as it reaches radix linguae
- Runs alongside n. hypoglossus (CN-XII)
