Define poverty
Poverty is when a person has an income and resources that so inadequate that they have a standard of living considered unacceptable by their society.
Absolute poverty
Poverty in third world
Severely deprived of basic human needs (food, drinking water, sanitation facilities, medical care, shelter)
Relative poverty
poverty in the developed world. This is when a person has income less than what is needed to maintain a basic standard of living in a society.
the poverty line
a cut off point of income that is considered acceptable to meet basic needs in society. When somebody does not reach this level of income they are said to be below the poverty line.
the cycle of poverty
The cycle of poverty is how children in poverty are likely to live in poverty themselves when they are older due to a lack of resources and opportunities growing up.
