A multifactorial disease caused by porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2).

How is PWMWS transmitted?
A
Direct contact, contaminated feeds, bodily fluids.

Who is most commonly found to have PWMWS
A
Oten occurs after weaning commonly in pigs around 4-14 weeks old (kahn 2010)

What are the main clinical signs pf PWMWS?
A
- Progressive weight loss
- Enlarged lymph nodes
- Respiratory distress
- Diarrhoea
- Dyspnea
- Gross and microscopic lesions

Clinical signs
Can do ELISA to look for Ab’s against PCV2

What Prophylaxis can be done?
A
Improved management of the herd
- Reduce mixing pigs
- Reduce stress
- Reduce microbial load
- Cleaning and disinfecting
- Vaccination

A
In 2001 is was £10.39 for each pig sold (Tucker 2006)
