What is infectious pododermatitis also known as?

What causes foot rot?
A
Fusobacterium necrophrum and Dichlobacter nodosus
Which both eat away at the foot tissue

What is foot rot?
A
High contagioud bacterial infection that effects the horn and interdigital space which results in seperation of the hoof horn, the sole horn and the other wall.

What are the signs of foot rot?
A
- Abcesses
- Rotting smell and very grungy
- Swelling and inflammation

What do you use to treat foot rot?
A
- Oxytetracycline (IM injection)
- Antibiotic foot spray

How do you prevent foot rot?
A
- Clean field, and leave free for 14 days (bacteria is present on grazed and recently grazed fields for up to 14 days)
- Frequent animal inspections
- Concrete stations at water trophs
- Foot baths (10% zinc sulphate for 10 mins)
- Cull is reacurant
