Posterior Abdominal Wall Musculature and Lymphatics Flashcards
What is the action of the Psoas major and what is it innerveated by?
action: flexes thigh at hip, with feet fixed it flexes trunk on thigh; acting unilaterally side-bends trunk to same side
innervation: L2, L3, L4 via lumbar plexus
What is the action of the psoas minor and what is it innervated by?
aciton: assists in extension and flexion of trunk; acting unilaterally side-bends trunk to same side
innervation: L1, (L2)
What is the action of the Quadratus lumborm and what is it innervated by?
action: extends and laterally flexes vertebral column; fixes rib 12 during inspiration
innervation: T12-L4
Iliacus - action and innervation
action: flexes thigh at hip; with lower limb fixed, flexes pelvis on thigh
innervation: femoral n. (L2, L3, and L4)
How far does the superior surface of the diaphragm reach?
5th rib
What are the boundaries of the diaphragm?
xiphisternal joint, costal margin, body of TV12
What are the three peripheral origins of the diaphragm?
sternal, costal, and lumbar
Comparing the left and right crus, which one is short and which one is long?
right crus: long
left crus: short
Where is the median arcuate ligament?
over aorta
Where are the medial arcuate ligaments?
over psoas major
Where are the lateral arcuate ligaments?
over quadratus lumborum
The aortic hiatus is at what vertebra?
T12
The esophageal hiatus is at what vertebra?
T10
The vena cabal foramen is at what vertebra?
T8
pericardiacophrenic, musculphrenic, superior phrenic aa. are vessels on what surface of the diaphragm?
superior surface
What vessels are on the inferior surface of the diaphragm?
inferior phrenic aa. & vv.
What is the only motor nerve of the diaphragm?
Phrenic n. C3, C4, C5
What are the sensory nerves of the diaphragm?
phrenic n. (central) , intercostal nn. (peripheral)
Does the diaphragm have both parietal and visceral lymphatics?
yes
Subcostal (T12), Iliohypogastric (T12), Ilioinguinal (L1), lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh (L2, 3), genitofemoral nerve (L1,2) and femoral nerve (L2-4) are all nerves in what area?
posterior abdominal wall
At what vertebra does the aortic bifurcation occur at?
L4
What are the arteries of the urogenital system from the abdominal aorta?
suprarenal superior middle, right renal, left renal, left gonadal
inferior phrenic, lumbar, and subcostal arteries are from the abdominal aorta and are part of what area?
abdominal wall/diaphragm
The celiac a., superior mesenteric a., and inferior mesenteric a. are arteries from the abdominal aorta that supply what?
gut
What two pathways does sympathetic innervation of gut involve?
splanchnic and suprarenal
What are the components of the renal system?
kidneys, suprarenal glands, urinary bladder, urethra
List the path that urine travels after secretion
urine runs from renal papillae to minor calyses, to major calyses to the renal pelvis and finally the ureter
