The Criminal Investigation Department (CID)

A

-The detective department was added to the MET in 1842.
-Tiny and ineffective-confusion. Didn’t know if they were to detect or prevent crime.
-218 in 1878.
-Aimed to detect crime-although standard didn’t improve.

Commissioner Charles Warren.

A

-Strikes and demonstrations against government policy.
-Met police commissioner in 1886.
-the idea was that police were the government in uniform.
-Called in the army to control protesters- Bloody Sunday.
-Warren was criticised by all sides.
