What were the forest laws?
When the forests became royal forests so no one was allowed to poach there unless they paid for hunting rights. people did not see it as a crime as it was seen as unfair.
What was the murdrum fine?
If an Anglo-Saxon killed a Norman the nearest 100 houses had to pay a fine. However, people would not want to pay the fines so they would try to prevent it.
What was the feudal system and what is the order?
A legal system. King, barons, knights and peasants.
What is an outlaw?
Any man who was over 14 that runs away from his community.
What punishments were carried on?
Physical punishment, fines and execution.
What happened to the fines and weregild?
The fines were now paid to the king and the weregild was ended.
What was trial by combat and what was it used for?
When you fight to the death or surrender (then killed). It was used to settle money or land disputes.
What law enforcement was carried on?
Collective responsibility and hue and cry.
