- “Λυπάμαι” and “συγνώμη” both mean ‘I’m sorry’ in Greek, but they have different meanings and are used in different contexts:
“Λυπάμαι” (Lypámai):
“Λυπάμαι” means “I’m sorry” or “I regret.” It is used when you want to express your regret or sympathy for something that has happened or for someone’s situation.
For example, you might say “Λυπάμαι πολύ για τον χαμένο σου φίλο” (I’m very sorry for your lost friend).
“Συγνώμη” (Sygnómi):
“Συγνώμη” means “excuse me” or “I apologize.” It is used when you want to ask for forgiveness or when you want to express that you’re sorry for something you’ve done or said.
For example, if you accidentally bump into someone, you can say “Συγνώμη” to apologize.
‘συγνώμη’ can also be spelled ‘συγγνώμη’
How many dollars do you have?
Πόσα δολάρια έχετε;
I want some. (dollars)
Θέλω μερικá.
You can’t eat here.
Δεν μπορείτε να φάτε εδώ.

In general, it is best to use the form “αρκετό” when the noun is singular and the form “αρκετά” when the noun is plural.
