Physiology and Anatomy vocabulary 2 Flashcards
the membrane found in all cells that separates the interior of the cell from the outside environment.
Plasma Membrane
Jelly like liquid that fills the inside of a cell.
Cytoplasm
Specialized structure that performs various jobs inside of the cell.
Organelles
Double membrane organelle that contains genetic material.
Nucleus
Continuous double layer of lipid molecules in which membrane proteins are embedded.
Lipid Bi-layer
A lipid containing a phosphate group in its molecule. Has a hydrophilic “head” and a hydrophobic “tail”.
Phospholipid
A waxy, fat-like substance found in all cells of the body.
Cholesterol
Carbohydrate attached lipid, which associated with cell membranes.
Glycolipid
Allowing some but not all molecules to pass.
Selective Permeability
Acts as a catalyst in living organisms.
Enzymes
Substance that is dissolved in the solution.
Solute
Substance that dissolves a solute.
Solvent
Homogeneous mixture that is made up of a solute dissolved within a solvent.
Solution
The measure of the amount of a sub-component in a solution.
Concentration
Measurement of how the concentration of something changes from one place to another.
Concentration Gradient
