Q

Describe the light reactions stage of photosynthesis

A

During the light reactions, light energy from the sun is trapped by chlorophyll in the chloroplasts.

This energy is then used to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. The oxygen is a byproduct that is then released from the leaf by diffusion.

The hydrogen is then carried forward into the second stage

Q

Describe the carbon fixation stage of photosynthesis

A

A series of enzyme controlled reactions.

In carbon fixation the ATP and hydrogen produced during the light reactions are used. The energy from ATP allows hydrogen to join with the gas carbon dioxide to form sugar

Q

How can you investigate limiting factors?

A

By measuring the rate of photosynthesis

This can be done by measuring the number of oxygen bubbles per minute using water, sodium hydrogen carbonate solution and the plant elodea
