Phase III - Block VI - Aviation Life Support Systems Flashcards
What is a safety issue related to Halon?
Halon may produce decomposition by-products characterized by a sharp odor that may be harmful. Evacuation or oxygen is recommended until ventilation is established.
What should be done before servicing oxygen systems?
Make sure your hands, clothing, and all tools and equipment are clean. Clean the lines, fittings, and the surrounding area. Oxygen combines readily with oil, grease, and other petroleum products to form a combustible mass.
What does HERO stand for?
Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance
Why do we use HERO for naval aircraft?
Physical contact with cartridge actuated devices during handling and loading operations is prohibited. At this time all radio transmissions and communications are halted.
Describe the oxygen system on the C-130?
Emergency oxygen is supplied to aircrew from the liquid oxygen system. Liquid oxygen flows from the 25 liter converter, located in the nose wheel well, through a heat exchanger. From there, gaseous oxygen is supplied to ten regulators located throughout the aircraft.
What is the capacity of the oxygen system?
25 liters
How many walk around bottles are on the C-130T?
4 with full face masks
Where are the walk around bottles located in the C-130T?
One is located next to the pilot and co-pilot. One on the starboard side of the 245 bulkhead and one starboard aft of the wheel well.
Explain the environmental control system?
There are two separate air conditioning systems on the C-130T.
True or False
Either system can supply conditioned air to both the flight station and cargo compartment distribution ducts and provide full pressurization capability.
TRUE
How does the air conditioning system work?
Each system refrigerates air fed to it from the bleed air supply system and conducts a mixture of hot air and refrigerated air through ducts to outlets in the aircraft compartments.
True or False
Only the cargo compartment can be pressurized using the cabin pressurization system.
False
The entire aircraft
How is the aircraft pressurized?
Pressurization is supplied from the air conditioning system, and the flow of air out of the aircraft is controlled by the out flow valve.
What happens if the aircraft is over pressurized?
If the cabin over pressurizes there is a safety valve located on the cargo door which will relieve pressure.
How many first aid kits are on the C-130T?
22
