Phase III - Block V - Electronic Systems Flashcards
What are the important safety issues regarding the Electronic Systems?
Avionics safety not only includes basic electrical safety but also has specific hazards associated this operation of certain systems.
What is important safety wise about the APS-133 weather radar?
It has a hazard area that extends 35 feet in front of the aircraft for personnel and 51 feet for explosives or fuel.
What is important safety wise about the ARC-190 HF radios?
It has a hazard area that is the top of the aircraft for personnel, 200 for fuel ignition and 150 feet for explosives.
What is the avionics system?
It is electronic systems are provided in the aircraft for communication and navigation. Major components are located in equipment racks mounted at various stations in the fuselage. Antennas are mounted flush with the fuselage skin where possible in order to eliminate additional aerodynamic drag.
Explain what instruments and indicators of instrument systems do?
They are grouped according to function or panels in the flight station. The main instrument panel is divided into three sections. The pilots indicators are on the left section. The right section , called the copilot’s instrument panel, holds the copilot’s flight indicators and hydraulic system pressure indicators. Engine indicators are on the center panel. Electrical system indicators, fuel quantity indicators, and anti-icing and de-icing indicators are on the overhead control panel.
What is an ADI and how many are on the aircraft?
Attitude Display Indicators (ADI), one each located on the pilot and copilot main instrument panel center just below the windscreen. The ADI gives input to the pilot and co-pilot on the relative attitude of the aircraft.
What is a HSI and how many are on the aircraft?
Horizontal Situation Indicators HSI, one each located on the pilot and copilot main instrument panel directly below the ADI. The HIS’s display heading and distance inputs to the pilot and copilot from a wide range of navigation systems which are selectable.
What is a BDHI and how many are on the aircraft?
Bearing Distance Heading Indicators, one each located on the pilots and copilots main instrument panel, and the other two are located on the navigator’s instrument panel.
How many radar indicators are there in the C-130T?
What are the radar indicators?
Two radar indicators are utilized. One on the bottom right corner of the pilot’s main instrument panel, and the other is located at the navigator’s station.
How many radar altimeter indicators are there in the C130T?
What are the radar altimeter indicators?
There are two radar altimeter indicators. One each located on the pilots and copilots main instrument panel. They give input to the pilot and copilot on the actual aircraft distance to the ground.
How many barometric altimeter indicators are there in the C130T?
What are the barometric altimeter indicators?
There are three barometric altimeter indicators. One each located on the pilots and copilots main instrument panel and the third is located on the navigator’s instrument panel. The barometric altimeter indicator gives input to the pilot and copilot on the aircraft distance above sea level.
How many airspeed indicators are there in the C130T?
What are the airspeed indicators?
One each located on the pilots and copilots main instrument panel. The airspeed indicator gives an input to the pilot and copilot on the airspeed of the aircraft measured in knots (not to be confused with the ground speed measured in MPH).
What does TCAS stand for?
Traffic Collision Avoidance System
What does TCAS do?
The TCAS indicator is located on the pilots main instrument panel. The TCAS indicator gives input to the flight crew on the air traffic around the aircraft. It also gives instructions on how to move the aircraft to avoid a mid-air collision.
What does CDNU stand for?
Control Display Navigational Unit
