Why is aircraft static grounding important?
It will harmlessly discharge static electricity to the earth or the deck
What is the proper procedure for grounding an aircraft?
1st hook the grounding strap to a certified static ground and 2nd to the aircraft grounding receptacle.
Why is it important to hook the grounding strap to the ground first?
Failure to use the proper procedure could cause the discharge the electricity through the person holding the strap.
How many categories of aircraft tie-downs are there?
Four
Describe the initial tie-down?
Up to 45 knots: a minimum of 6 chains are required, initial tie-down is used immediately prior to, in between, or immediately after flight.
Describe the normal weather tie-down?
Up to 45 knots 9 chains are required
Describe the moderate weather tie-down?
Up to 46-60 knots 14 chains are required
Describe the heavy weather tie-down?
Above 60 knots 20 chains are required
What is maximum towing speed?
Speed shall not exceed 5 mph or the speed of the slowest walker.
How many personnel does it take to move a naval aircraft?
Six to Ten people
What is the responsibilities of the Move Director?
Overall responsible for assembling the move crew, ensuring they are properly qualified to perform their duties, pre-move briefing, safe movement of the aircraft with an emphasis on safety.
What is the responsibilities of the Brake rider?
Conducts a pre-move inspection of brake system and aircraft to ensure it is mechanically sound and ready for movement.
What is the responsibilities of the chock walker?
Responsible for removing, carrying and installing the wheel chocks. The individual escorts the aircraft while being moved and is always alert and ready to chock the aircraft.
What is the responsibilities of the safety observer?
Primarily responsible for ensuring that the aircraft is ready to be towed and that there is ample clearance for the aircraft. The safety observers are positioned at the wing tips and tail of the aircraft.
What is the responsibilities of the tractor driver?
Responsible for the safe and slow movement of the aircraft from the hook up to the final parking spot. This individual is responsible directly to the move director and must be fully qualified and licensed for the equipment they are operating.
