What’s the worst way bacteria can enter the body?
Intramuscular (deep laceration). Few pathogens can actually multiply in the bloodstream (hence why it’s not IV)
What are ubiquitous organisms?
Organism that are found everywhere in the environment - don’t infect healthy people or cause epidemics. Only multiply when illness/injury introduces them to an ordinarily sterile part of the body
Which organisms find a ‘safe-haven’ in the body to ensure survival?
varicella, tubercle, H.pylori, typhoid
What chronic disease can infection with HPV cause?
Cervical or anal cancer
What chronic disease can infection with EBV cause?
nasopharyngeal cancer, Burkitt’s lymphoma and Hodgkins lymphoma
What chronic disease can infection with HTLV cause?
T cell leukaemia
What chronic disease can infection with H.Pylori cause?
Stomach/gastric cancer
What chronic disease can infection with schistosomiasis cause?
Bladder cancer
What chronic disease can infection with HBV/HCV cause?
Liver cancer
