The unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another
Define ‘manslaughter’
The crime of killing a human being without malice aforethought, or in circumstances not amounting to murder.
Define ‘suicide’
act or an instance of taking one’s own life voluntarily and intentionally.
Define ‘assisted suicide’
Where someone helps in the taking of a person’s life
Define ‘physician assisted suicide’
Where a doctor helps someone to end their life
What is passive euthanasia?
Inducing death via non-direct means e.g. DNR, withholding life support
What is active euthanasia?
Active help to end someone’s life e.g. with misazolam and KCl overdose OR with opiate overdose in palliative care
What is voluntary euthanasia?
Euthanasia performed with the patient’s consent
What is involuntary euthanasia?
Where euthanasia is performed against the patient’s will
What is non-voluntary euthanasia?
Where the patient is unable to give their informed consent
