Adverse Drug Reactions Flashcards
What is a Type A adverse drug reaction?
Augmented reaction - there is an exaggeration of a drug’s normal action when given at a usual therapeutic dose
Which drugs are more likely to present with a Type A adverse drug reaction?
antiplatelet, diuretics, NSAIDs and anticoagulants
What is a Type B adverse drug reaction?
Bizarre reaction - novel responses that are not expected from known pharmacological response
What is a Type C adverse drug reaction?
Continuing reaction - reactions persistent for a relatively long time after discontinuation of the medication. Examples include: bisphosphonates (osteonecrosis of the jaw), corticosteroids (osteoporosis)
What is a Type D adverse drug reaction?
Delayed reaction - reactions that become apparent some time after use of a medication. Examples include: carbimazole (agranulocytosis), typical antipsychotics (tardive dyskinesia), chemotherapy (infertility)
What is a Type E adverse drug reaction?
End of use - reactions associated with withdrawal of medications. Examples include: benzodiazepines, corticosteroids and opiates.
What is a Type F adverse drug reaction?
Failure reactions
What is a Type G adverse drug reaction?
Genetic reactions
What is a Type I adverse drug reaction?
Idiosyncratic reactions
