A) manifested in >2 areas (cognition, affectivity, interpersonal functioning, impulse control)
B) inflexible and maladaptive thinking
C) significant distress and/or impairment (ego-syntonic)
D) enduring, stable (no date of onset, develops with personality)
E) not due to medical condition
F) not due to substance use
Cluster A
“odd”: schizoid, schizotypal, paranoid
Cluster B
“dramatic”: antisocial, borderline, histrionic, narcissistic
Cluster C
“anxious”: avoidant, dependent, obsessive-compulsive
antisocial personality disorder
socially irresponsible, manipulative and deceptive, remorseless
borderline personality disorder
unstable, impulsive, self-destructive; tendency for self-mutilation (“self-treating”) /suicide attempts
narcissistic personality disorder
egocentric, grandiose, craves attention, uses others to meet selfish needs
avoidant personality disorder
inhibited, low self-esteem, self-conscious
obsessive compulsive personality disroder
perfectionistic, excessively disciplined, aggressive/competitive, inability to relax
