obsessive compulsive spectrum disorders
OCD, OCD secondary to another medical condition, substance-induced OCD
body dysmorphic disorder
preoccupation with imagined/slight defect, repetitive behavior (mirror checking), mental acts (comparing with others), obsession + compulsion with focus; 2.5% US adults
compulsion (w/o obsession) disorders
hoarding (3x common in >55 y/o), trichotillomania, excoriation (repeated attempts to stop), Tourette’s (ticks, jerking, blinking, vocal)
obsessions (w/o compulsion) disorders
post-traumatic stress disorder
obsessive compulsive disorder
presence of obsessions (intrusive, unwanted thoughts), compulsions (repetitive behavior, mental act to reduce distress associated with obsession), both that are time consuming >1h/d; pathological uncertainty
epidemiology
occurs later in life (onset 19.5 y/o); F>M, comorbidity with depression or anxiety disorder
PANDAS
pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with streptococcus; abrupt onset of OCD between 3 y/o and puberty (treat with IV Ig and plasmaphoresis)
treatment
SSRIs, behavior therapy (exposure); dopamine blocking agents, neurosurgery
