how can the perception of crime increasing affect the public?
may lead to fear among groups of becoming a victim
eg. women and parents
how can the overreporting of adductions, sexual abuse or violence by paedophiles affect the public?
may lead to parents being fearful of allowing children to go out unsupervised
what does statistics show in relation to child abuse etc?
children are at higher risk of their family members than they are strangers
how has fear increased with the media perceptions?

. statistics show young makes are most likely to be a victim of the streets
. tabloid readers and heavy TV users have a greater fear due to heavier exposure
