several reasons why police may choose to not record a crime?
. may not believe the story
. not enough evidence for conviction
. victim may refuse to press charges
. may not wish to investigate
- crime is trivial, not a priority, or to save resources
what does unreported crimes add to?

what is the ripple effect?
the crime doesn’t just impact the immediate victim but can spread across whole communities to affect secondary victims.
what are secondary victims in regards to the ripple effect?
friends
family
wider community in which the victim lives
the ripple effect and domestic violence?
perpetrator of domestic abuse, often has been abused as a child or have witnessed the abuse of a parent.
what happens if domestic violence goes unreported?
can be viewed to be acceptable by the perpetrators therefore as children they can be socialised to accept this behaviour
they then may repeat this behaviour as adults etc.
what is hate crime?
usually against an indivudal, can be a community wide repression
eg- if someone is racially abused. ripple effect- can spread ‘ wave of harm’ .
