1) Mild:
motivates people everyday and is considered “normal”. Viewed as positive
2) Moderate
begins to hear, see, and grasp less due to narrowing of perceptual field; decreased awareness of the environment and decreased focus noticing only those things that are brought to the individuals attention (problem solving, talk therapy, CBT and anxiety reduction techniques)
3) Severe
thoughts become scattered, focusing on small details, unable to problem solve, feel a sense of doom, experience tachycardia and hyperventilation. Nursing interventions include focusing on providing short, firm concrete decisions to assist the person to remain clam and protect from self-injury
4) Panic
intense sense of fear accompanied by physical symptoms (chest pain, heart palpitations, dizziness, SOB and abdominal distress). Terror, emotional paralysis, hallucinations and delusions may occur during panic. People become mute, extremely agitated, irrational, hyper vigilant, and hyperactive.
