Penis (new book) Flashcards
How is the root of the stallion penis attached to the skeleton?
To the tuber ischii via the ischiocavernous muscles
What surrounds the urethra and prevents its collapse during erection?
Corpus spongiosum
What muscle surrounds the corpus spongiosum?
The bulbospongiosum muscle
The corpus cavenosum is surrounded by a thick steel of fibrous tissue called the?
tuba albuginea.
What is the structure of the fossa glandis of the stallion penis?
Distal part of the glans penis has a deep depres- sion, the fossa glandis, which hosts the terminal portion of the urethra, the urethral process. Furthermore, the fossa glandis has a bilocular diver- ticulum, called the urethral sinus.
Which arteries provide the main blood supply to the penis?
Pudendal artery and obturator artery.
What are the main pathologies of the stallion penis?
Paraphimosis, priapism, penile trauma.
What are the US features of paraphymosis vs priapism?
Paraphimosis affects normal blood and lymphatic circulation in the penis leading to gravitational edema, especially in the preputial ring. The corpus spongiosum of the glans is thickened and contains dilated vessels and trabeculae (Figure 12.18). Blood flow is slow and blood clots are often formed which appear hyper echoic.
Priapism can similarly result in blood clots and hyper echoic contents.
