Pelvic Girdle and Anterior Thigh Flashcards
What are the two functions of the lower limb?
mobility and support
what is the deep fascia of the thigh called?
fascia lata
What are the three compartments of the thigh and what nerve supplies them
- Anterior(quads)-femoral nerve
- medial(adductors)-obturator nerve
- Posterior(hamstrings)-sciatic nerve
What is the IT band made of ?
continuation of the tensor fascia lata which holds the IT band in place and keeps it tight
What muscles make up the anterior thigh?
Pectineus, Iliopsoas, tensor of fascia lata, sartorius, quadriceps femoris
What is the origin, insertion, innervation, and action of the pectineus?
Origin: superior ramus of pubis
insertion: pectineal line of femur
innervation: femoral nerve
action:adducts and slightly flexes hip
What is the origin, insertion, innervation, and action of the Iliacus?
Origin: Ilaic crest, iliac fossa
insertion: =tendon of psoas major
innervation: femoral
action: conjointly with other iliopsoas to flex and laterally rotate the hip joint. Stabilize hip joint when standing
What is the origin, insertion, innervation, and action of the Psoas Major ?
Origin:sides of T12- L5 vert
insertion: lesser trochanter
innervation: anterior rami of lumbar nerves
action: conjointly with other iliopsoas to flex and laterally rotate the hip joint. Stabilize hip joint when standing
What is the origin, insertion, innervation, and action of the psoas Minor?
Origin:sides of T12-L1 vert
insertion: pectineal line and iliopubic eminence
innervation: anterior rami of lumbar nerves
action:conjointly with other iliopsoas to flex and laterally rotate the hip joint. Stabilize hip joint when standing
What is the origin, insertion, innervation, and action of the Sartorius?
Origin: Anterior superior iliac spine and superior part of nothc
insertion: Superior part of medial surface of tibia
innervation: Femoral nerve
action: flexes, abducts, and laterally rotates hip joint. Flexes knee
What makes up the iliopsoas?
psoas major and iliacus.
What muscles make up the quadriceps femoris?
Rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, vastus intermedius
What is the origin, insertion, innervation, and action of the rectus femoris?
Origin: AIIS and ilium
Insertion:common tendinous and independent attatchments to base of the patella
innervation: femoral nerve
action: extends knee, rectus femoris also steadies hip joint and helps iliopsoas flex hip joint
What is the origin, insertion, innervation, and action of the Vastus Lateralis?
Origin: Greater trochanter and lateral lip of linea aspera
Insertion:common tendinous and independent attatchments to base of the patella
innervation: femoral nerve
action: extends knee, rectus femoris also steadies hip joint and helps iliopsoas flex hip joint
What is the origin, insertion, innervation, and action of the Vastus Intermedius?
Origin: anterior and lateral surfaces of shaft of femur
Insertion:common tendinous and independent attatchments to base of the patella
innervation: femoral nerve
action: extends knee, rectus femoris also steadies hip joint and helps iliopsoas flex hip joint
