Forearm Flexor Flashcards

1
Q

Why do we call the forearm the “flexor compartment” and the “extensor compartment”?

A

Because muscles of the UE are enclosed by deep fascia into compartments

Muscles within these compartments will have a similar action and similar innervation

Q

Ulnar nerve injury

A

fracture of medial epicondyle

compression between two heads of flexor carpi ulnaris “cubital tunnel syndrome”

results in loss of hand muscles and skin sensory issues

Q

What nerves supply the anterior forearm?

A

Ulnar nerve supplies flexor carpi ulnaris and half of the flexor digitorum profundus

median nerve supplies all other muscles in the anterior forearm

Palmaris longus

A

missing in one or both sides of 15% of people

weak flexor and has a insignificant function

its tendon is sometimes used as a surgical component

A

Flexor digitorum superficialis

16
Q

What are the deep muscles of flexors?

A

flexor pollicis longus, flexor digitorum profundus, pronator quadratus

17
Q

What is the deep branch of the median nerve called and what does it supply?

A

Anterior interosseus nerve and it supplies the deep flexor muscles in the forearm

18
Q

What seperates the flexors and extensors?

A

Radius and Ulna

Interosseus membrane

19
Q

What holds the tendons of the anterior forearm muscles in place in the carpal tunnel?

A

The flexor retinaculum and prevents “bowstringing”

20
Q

What are The superficial veins of the forearm ?

A

Cephalic vein and basilic vein
