Axilla and Brachial Plexus Flashcards
What are the arteries of the proximal upper limb?
Subclavian
Axillary
Brachial
What forms the brachial plexus?
ventral rami of C5-T1spinal nerves
What does the brachial plexus supply?
The structures of the upper limb
every muscle of the upper limb receives its own nerve supply from a branch of the brachial plexus
Where do the roots of brachial plexus emerge?
Between anterior and Middle scalene
Robert Taylor Drinks Cold Beer (Order of Branches )
Roots,Trunks, Divisions,Cords,Terminal Branches
How many are in each section?
5 roots
3 trunks
3 anterior division 3 posterior divisions
3 cords
then terminal branches
Name the 5 Ventral rami
C5
C6
C7
C8
T1
What are the three trunks?
superior middle inferior
Name the 5 terminal branches
Radial Nerve
Median Nerve
Ulnar Nerve
Axillary Nerve
Musculocutaneous Nerve
What are Collateral branches?
Nerves that arise from the brachial plexus prior to the terminal branches
They arise from the roots, trunks, and cords of the plexus
What do collateral branches innervate?
Muscles of the scapular region
What are nerves located superior and inferior to the clavicle called?
Supraclavicular nerve
infracclavicular nerve
What muscles does the MusculoCutaneious nerve innervate?
The anterior arm- Biceps, Brachii, coracobrachialis, brachialis
What muscles does the Median nerve innervate?
Most of anterior forearm- wrist and finger flexors-except flexor carpi ulnaris.
The thumb muscles
2 lateral lumbricals
What muscles does the Ulnar nerve innervate?
Most of hand; one muscle in the anterior forearm( the flexor carpi ulnaris)
