Q

What does the brachial plexus supply?

A

The structures of the upper limb

every muscle of the upper limb receives its own nerve supply from a branch of the brachial plexus

Q

What are Collateral branches?

A

Nerves that arise from the brachial plexus prior to the terminal branches

They arise from the roots, trunks, and cords of the plexus

16
Q

What muscles does the Radial nerve nerve innervate?

A

Posterior arm- Triceps, brachii, anconeus

posterior forearm- (wrist and finger extensors)

17
Q

What muscles does the Axillary nerve innervate?

A

Deltoid and teres minor

18
Q

What is the advantage to the arrangement of the nerves in the plexus?

A

The nerves supplying muscles of the extremities are carrying neurons from more than one spinal cord level- so damage to one segment wont result in complete loss in any one muscles

also with so many muscles in UE the spinal cord would need to be super long to supply them with nerves

19
Q

Where does the axillary nerve wrap ?

A

The nerve wraps around the surgical neck of the humerus

20
Q

Where does the radial nerve run?

A

It runs in the radial groove in the mid shaft of the humerus
