Muscles of the Scapular Region part 1 Flashcards
Where does the Glenhoid Face on upward and downward rotation?
Upward rotation: Faces up at end of movement
Downward rotation: Faces down at end of movement
What is the definition of origin and insertion?
Origin: Defined as the attachment that doesn’t move when muscle contracts
Insertion: Defined as the attachment that moves when the muscle contracts
What muscles suspend the pectoral girdle from the Vertebral Column?
Trapezius
Levator Scapulae
Rhomboid Major
Rhomboid Minor
What is the origin, insertion, nerve supply, and action of trapezius?
Origin: Medial third of superior nuchal line; external occipital protuberence;nuchal ligament;spinous processes of C7-T12
Insertion: Lateral third of clavicle; acromion and spine of scapula
Innervation : Spinal accessory nerve,C3 and C4,
action: Superior part elevates, inferior depresses, and middle part or all together retracts the scapula, the superior and inferior work together to rotate the gelnhoid cavity
What is the origin, insertion, nerve supply, and action of Levator Scapulae?
Origin: C1 and C4 vert
Insertion: Superior portion of scapula
Innervation: Dorsal scapular nerve
Actions:elevates scapula
-downward rotation of scapula
What is the the origin, insertion, nerve supply, and action of the rhomboid Minor?
origin: Spinous process of C7-T1
Insertion:Medial borders of scapula
Innervation:Dorsal scapular nerve
Action: retraction of scapula; downward rotation of scapula
What is the the origin, insertion, nerve supply, and action of the rhomboid Major?
origin: Spinous process of T2-T5
Insertion:Medial borders of scapula
Innervation:Dorsal scapular nerve (C5)
Action: retraction of scapula; downward rotation of scapula
What muscles pull on the pectoral girdle from the anterior chest wall?
Serratus Anterior
Subclavius
Pectoralis Minor
What is the the origin, insertion, nerve supply, and action of the Serratus anterior?
origin: External surface of ribs 1-8
Insertion: Anterior surface , medial border of scapula
Innervation:Long thoracic Nerve
Action: Protraction of scapula, upward rotation of scapula; holds scapula close to body wall
What causes Winged Scapula?
Damage to the serratus anterior and or long thoracic nerve
What is the Origin, insertion, insertion, and action of the subclavius?
Origin:Junction of 1st rib and costal cartilage
Insertion:Inferior surface, middle third of clavicle
Innervation:Nerve to subclavius (C5,6)
Action:Depress clavicle
What is the Subclavius protect?
Subclavian artery and vein, protects them in case of clavicle fracture
What muscles abduct and adduct the humerus?
Abduct:Deltoid
Suprinatous
Adduct:
latissimus dorsi
teres major
Pec major
What is the Origin, insertion, insertion, and action of the Deltoids?
Origin: anterior -clavicle
middle-acromion and spine of scapula
posterior-spine of scapula
insertion-deltoid tuberosity
innervation:axillary nerve
Actions:
anterior- flexion, medial rotation of humerus
middle-abduction of humerus
posterior-extension, lateral rotation of humerus
What are the muscles of the rotator cuff?
Supraspinatus
Infraspinatus
Subscapularis
teres minor
