Pelvic Bones and Cavity lecture iv and Reproduction lecture i Flashcards
ischio-anal (ischiorectal) fossa: large, fascia-lined, wedge-shaped space btwn
the skin of the anal region and the pelvic diaphragm
ischio-anal (ischiorectal) fossa: filled w/
fat and loose connective tissue
pudendal canal
passageway in the lateral wall of the ischio-anal fossa for nerves and blood vessels passing to and from the perineum
perineum- diamond shaped area inferior to
the pelvic diaphragm
perineum in females with lower limbs abducted, it extends from the
mons pubis anteriorly and the insides of the thighs laterally to the gluteal folds and superior end of the intergluteal cleft posteriorly
the perineum is divided into 2 traingles:
- urogenital triangle/diaphragm
2. anal triangle
urogenital triangle/diaphragm the _ triangle
anterior triangle
urogenital triangle/diaphragm pierced by the _ in both genders and the _ in females
by the urethra in both genders and the vagina in females
the _ are surface feats of the urogenital triangle/diaphragm
the labia majora, labia minora, and clitoris in females and the penis and scrotum in males are surface feats of the urogenital triangle/diaphragm
the anal triangle the _ triangle
posterior triangle
the _ is a surface feat of the anal traingle
the anus
perineal body irregular mass containing
(central tendon of the perineum) irregular mass containing muscle and collagenous and elastic fibers
perineal body lies deep to the _ and is the site of _
skin and is the site of convergence of fibers of several muscles
muscles that converge in the perineal body (3)
- bulbospongiosus
- superficial transverse perineal muscle
- deep transverse perineal muscle
bulbospongiosus action in males
assists erection by compressing outflow vein of penis and compresses bulb of penis to expel the last drops of urine or semen
bulbospongiosus action in females
assists erection of clitoris and compresses greater vestibular gland
bulbospongiosus innervation
perineal nerve (a branch of the pudendal nerve)
superficial and deep transverse perineal action
support perineal body and pelvic floor to support the abdominopelvic viscera
superficial and deep transverse perineal innervation
perineal nerve (a branch of the pudendal nerve)
external urethral sphincter action
compresses urethra to maintain urinary continence
external urethral sphincter innervation
dorsal nerve of penis or clitoris (a branch of the pudendal nerve)
penis consists of
root, body, glans
root of penis the attached part; includes two _ and a _, which consist of _ tissue
the attached part; includes two cura and a bulb, which consist of erectile tissue
body of penis the free _ part that is suspended from _
the free pendulous part that is suspended from the pubic symphysis
glans of penis the margin is the _ of the glans; the _ is near its tip
its margin is the corona of the glans; the external urethral orifice is near its tip
t/f: internally, the penis contains 3 cylindrical cavernous bodies of erectile tissue
true
corpora cavernosa (dorsal/ventral?); (paired/unpaired?); they are extensions of the _
dorsal; paired; they are extensions of the crura
corpus spongiosum (ventral/dorsal?); (paired/unpaired?); its distal expansion is the _; the _ runs through it
ventral; unpaired; its distal expansion is the glans penis; the spongy urethra runs through it
prepuce an extension of the _ and _ of the penis around the _
(foreskin) an extension of the skin and fascia of the penis around the glans
the prepuce contains a median fold called
the frenulum of the prepuce
penile raphe
raised ridge btwn glans penis and scrotum
scrotal raphe
ridge btwn penile raphe and perineal raphe
perineal raphe
ridge btwn scrotal raphe and anus
urethra muscular tube that conveys urine from the _ to the _
from the internal urethral orifice of the urinary bladder to the external urethral orifice;
urethra also provides exit for _ (not urine)
semen
urethra divided into 4 segments:
- intramural (preprostatic) urethra
- prostatic urethra
- intermediate (membranous) urethra
- spongy (penile) urethra
intramural (preprostatic) urethra first segment that exits the _
first segment that exits the bladder
prostatic urethra next segment after intramural urethra that travels through _; _ ducts open into it
next segment that travels through the prostate; the ejaculatroy ducts open into it
intermediate (membranous) urethra begins at the inferior end of the _ and ends where the urethra enters the _ of penis
begins at the inferior end of the prostate and ends where the urethra enters the bulb of penis
spongy (penile) urethra final segment that ends at the _; ducts from the _ glands empty into it
final segment that ends at the external urethral orifice; ducts from the bulbo-urethral glands empty into it
scrotum contains
testes and associated structures
septum of the scrotum- deep to the _; a _ wall dividing the scrotum into 2 compartments
deep to the scrotal raphe; a fascial wall dividing the scrotum into 2 compartments
