Pathogens and Disease Flashcards
What causes communicable diseases?
Pathogens, or toxins that come from pathogens, cause communicable diseases by being passed from one infected host to another individual, sometimes from one species to another.
Why are bacteria important?
They’re important to the environment as decomposers and to your body. They are also used to make food such as yogurt and cheese
Name three common disease symptoms
High temperature
Headaches
Rashes
What causes common disease symptoms?
Common symptoms of diseases are caused by your body responding to and trying to prevent the spread of the pathogens.
How are pathogens spread by air?
Tiny droplets full of pathogens are expelled, which can be breathed in and cause an infection.
How can pathogens be spread by water?
Pathogens in water can be spread through the digestive system, or in the case of plants fungal spores can be carried to plants.
How can pathogens be spread by direct contact?
Common in plant diseases, direct contact with infected hosts or contact with blood can pass on the pathogens.
