Animal and Plant Cells Flashcards
What is the nucleus?
The nucleus controls all the activities of cells. It contains the genes on the chromosomes for making proteins to build new cells and is found in plant and animal cells.
What is the cytoplasm?
Cytoplasm is a liquid gel that the organelles of the cell are suspended. Chemical reactions take place within and it is found in animal and plant cells.
What is the cell membrane?
The cell membrane is a barrier that surrounds the cell and controls what enters and exits it. It is found only in animal cells.
What is the mitochondria?
Mitochondria are structures within the cytoplasm where aerobic respiration takes place. They are very small and found in plant and animal cells.
What is the ribosome?
Ribosomes are where protein synthesis takes place, and is where the proteins the cell needs are made. They are found in plant and animal cells.
What are algae?
Algae are simple aquatic organisms that make their own food and share many traits with plant cells.
What is the cell wall?
The cell wall is a supportive barrier around the cell that strengthens it. It is made of cellulose and is found in plant cells.
What are chloroplasts?
Chloroplasts contain chlorophyll which is what makes them green. Chlorophyll absorbs light so that it can be used in photosynthesis and is found in some plant cells.
What are permanent vacuoles?
A space in the cytoplasm filled with cell sap, and keep the cells rigid. They are found only in plant cells.
