What are bacterial diseases?
Bacterial diseases affect animals and plants and are caused by bacteria. They can be combatted with antibiotics, however are quickly becoming resistant.
What is salmonella?
Salmonella are bacteria that live in the guts of animals. They can get into our bodies through animal products, and disrupt the balance of the gut. The symptoms develop within 8-72 hours, and cause fever, cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea. Animals can be vaccinated and raw meats can be kept isolated and sanitary to combat it.
What is gonorrhoea?
Gonorrhoea is an STD. Its symptoms include thick yellow or green discharge and pain on urination. Left untreated, it can cause long-term pelvic pain, infertility and ectopic pregnancies. It can be treated with antibiotics, and prevented by having protected sex.
What are bacterial diseases in plants?
There are relatively few bacterial diseases in plants. Some examples are agrobacterium tumefaciens is a bacterium that causes crown galls, a mass of unspecialised cells that acts similarly to a cancer.
