How did the 1938 union between Austria and Germany come about- how did the crisis develop

A

Members of Nazi party stirred up trouble against Austrian government
Austrian chancellor asked Britain and France for help they declined
Hitler said union with Germany was the only answer for Germany
Chancellor decided on a referendum but before it happened Hitler’s troops marched in and 99% voted in favour of union with Germany
Britian and France accepted Hitler’s actions and League of Nations did nothing.

A

1 neither Britain of France wanted war as they had
2 economic problems ,
3 they remembered the horrors of the last war and
4 armies and navy had not yet recovered
5 Many politicians though treaty of Versilles was flawed and they should not go to war to defend it
6Hitler was standing up to communism and this was good
