in early 19th century electoral system was corrupt and outdated - few mps no secret ballot, only vote if you had property

1819 people saw parliament not acting in their interest henry hunt held a peaceful meting calling for reform but authorities sent army and 11 were killed
what happened in 1832
thomas attwood organised petition calling for reform the new king listened and helped get it through house of lords result was more midle class got the vote
when did chartists form and why
1836 to demand more reforms

annual elections wages for mps votes for all men equal sized constitutions votes in secret didnt need property to vote
what methods did chartists use
lovett used peaceful petitions but latter oconnor used violent strikes
what did chartists do
presented petition to parliament claimed 5 million signed it but actually less than 2 mill
what happened to chartists and why
faded away without achieving aims as they were dealt with harshly because of revolutions in europe. chartists put energy into other reforms.

middle class got vote factory owners were represented#power of kings and land owners was reduced showed changed was possible

working class not happy only 1 in 7 men could vote no secret vote so working class had to vote for employer of land owner
