P2 (10) 23. Feedback to optimize performance Flashcards
what is feedback
information received during or after a performance about the performance
what are the four types of feedback
intrinsic
extrinsic
terminal
concurrent
what is intrinsic feedback
feedback that comes from within and linked to how a movement feels
intrinsic feedback:
inexperienced or experienced performers?
inexperienced performers wont be able to rely on intrinsic feedback as they don’t know how a movement should feel
experienced performers understand the feeling and know if a movement is right or wrong. they are more capable of self assessing because of extra experience
what is extrinsic feedback
feedback that comes from a coach
usually comes in the form of visual or verbal guidance as a coach relays what could’ve been done better or was wrong
extrinsic feedback:
inexperienced or experienced performer?
less experienced performers need this kind of feedback to motivate and encourage them
experienced performers are likely to use extrinsic with intrinsic to gain a full picture of how they did before deciding on what needs to be improved
what is concurrent feedback
how does it help
feedback given during a performance
the performer can make adjustments as they go
can be intrinsic or extrinsic
what is terminal feedback
feedback given after the activity is completed
could be straight away or later, but always comes from an extrinsic source
coach could talk the performer through what they saw or watch a replay to analyse the performance as a whole
