P2 (10) 19. Classification of skills Flashcards
what is a skill
a specific and defined task that can be learned and practiced
what are the 3 classifications of skills
environmental influences - open and closed
difficulty - basic and complex
organisational level - low and high
what is a continuum definition
a line with a classification extreme at each end. skills can be placed on the continuum; the closer they are placed to the extreme, the more extreme the skill is
what is an open skill
(environmental influences)
example?
a skill performed in an unpredictable environment, where the performer has to react and adjust to the situation
a rugby tackle, as the timing and style is heavily influenced by factors including the ball carrier and the tackler
what is a closed skill
(environmental influences)
example?
a skill performed in a predictable environment
javelin, (not fully closed due to wind), but the throw is down to the athlete alone to perfect
what is a basic skill?
(difficulty continuum)
example?
a simple skill requiring little concentration to execute
running 400m
what is a complex skill
(difficulty continuum)
example?
a skill requiring lots of concentration and attention
a back flip on the beam
what is high organisational?
example?
a skill that cannot be broken down and practised separately beach each phase is closely linked
a golf swing
what is low organisational?
example?
a basic skill that can be broken down easily into different phases and each part can be practised separately
swimming front crawl
