Q
  1. During the high jump, the gastrocnemius and tibialis anterior work antagonistically to allow movement at the ankle during take off? Explain importance
A

the gastrocnemius contracts to allow plantar flexion at the ankle, which means greater force can be applied so the high jumper can push off the ground with more force to jump high.

Q

3e. describe plyometric training

A

high impact exercises that teach the muscles to perform their maximum contractions faster: to be more powerful. plyometric exercises cause the muscle to lengthen before a maximal shortening

Q

5a. how are different muscle fibres used by a 3000m runner and a hurdler

A

3000m runner:
needs slow twitch type 1 as its resistant to fatigue and needed to sustain a pace for a long period of time. this will allow the athlete to compete without needing to slow down because of tiredness.

hurdler:
needs fast twitch type 2x, as they can contract very powerfully, giving enough height to clear the hurdle. Type 2x is also for a short period of time, around 30 seconds, so it is perfect for a hurdler

18
Q
  1. assess the advantages and disadvantages of using mechanical and manual guidance when teaching a beginner to swim

intro

A

mechanical guidance is information that is given to a performer to help them develop that involves equipment to assist in the learning process. This is where an aid would be used to help them develop their skills. Manual is information given to a performer to help them develop that involves them being physically moved into the correct position.

19
Q
  1. assess the advantages and disadvantages of using mechanical and manual guidance when teaching a beginner to swim

mechanical

A

In swimming mechanical guidance would be used for example, when the person is learning how to do breaststroke legs by using a float to help them stay up in the water. This is beneficial to begin us in swimming because they will be able to practice the correct technique of breaststroke without trying to keep themselves up in the water. It is also safer to use a float. However, the beginning may become reliance on the aid being used such as the float if they use it for way too long as they will be afraid to do it without.

20
Q
  1. assess the advantages and disadvantages of using mechanical and manual guidance when teaching a beginner to swim

manual

A

in swimming manual guidance would be used for example, when the performer is physically moved into position by a coach such as moving the legs into the breaststroke action. This is an advantage for beginners swimming as they can get the feel for the movement and practice safely in the pool. However, a disadvantage of manual guidance says that having a coach in close proximity can be distressing.

21
Q
  1. assess the advantages and disadvantages of using mechanical and manual guidance when teaching a beginner to swim

conclusion

A

Overall, a combination of both manual and mechanical is is volunteers for a beginner summer as they can safely learn with mechanical guidance by using a float and also learn the correct technique through manual guidance as they can be moved into the correct technique. However, the coach could also use verbal and visual guidance to help this performer.
