P1 25. Planes and axes Flashcards
what is a plane
an imaginary line or surface that divides the body into two
movement then occurs long that plane
what is an axes
an imaginary straight line around which something turns
what are the 3 different planes
frontal
transverse
saggital
what is a frontal plane
an imaginary line that divides the body vertically front to back
boobs one side, bum the other
what is a transverse plane
an imaginary line that divides the body horizontally top to bottom
legs on one side, shoulders the other
what is a saggital plane
an imaginary line that divides the body vertically left to right
left arm one side, right arm the other
what are the three types of axes
frontal
vertical
saggital
what is a frontal axis
an imaginary line passing through the body left to right allowing flexion and extensions
like a somersault (front)
what is a vertical axis
an imaginary line passing through the body vertically allowing rotation of the body win an upright position
full twist
pirouette
what is a sagittal axis
an imaginary line passing though the body horizontally front to back allowing adduction and abduction
cartwheel
what is sagittal plane and frontal axis going to do?
sugar plum fairies awaken!
sagittal plane divides body vertically creating left and right
movement occurs in the sagittal plane about the frontal axis
frontal axis runs from side to side horizontally allowing flexion and extension
movement like a somersault
what is frontal plane and sagittal axis going to do?
for personal sex appeal!
frontal plane divides vertically into back and front
movement occurs in the frontal plane about the sagittal axis
sagittal axis horizontally from front to back, creating adduction and abduction
movement like a cartwheel
what is the transverse plane and vertical axis going to do?
transverse plane divides body horizontally into top and bottom
movement occurs in the transverse plane about the vertical axis
vertical axis vertically through body allowing rotation in an upright position
a full twist jump on a trampoline
whats the axis, movement and example for sagittal plane
frontal axis
flexion and extension
somersault
whats the axis, movement and example for frontal plane
sagittal axis
abduction and adduction
cartwheel
