Oxyhemoglobin Dissociation Flashcards
1
Q
Oxyhemoglobin Dissociation
A
The release of oxygen from haemoglobin
2
Q
Where?
A
At the working muscles during exercise
3
Q
What does it cause?
A
More oxygen released during exercise than at rest
Bohr shift (shift to right) on the graph
Creates steeper diffusion gradient
Causes more O2 to be released from haemoglobin
4
Q
What is it caused by?
A
Increase in C02
Increase in blood and muscle temperature
Increase in lactic acid/ blood acidity (lowers pH)
