June 1585 Dutch protestant representatives came to England offering Elizabeth 1 sovereignty of the Netherlands but refused as that meant she would depose the king and didn’t want to do that
10 August 1585 she signed the TREATY OF NON SUCH
with the Dutch protestants-this put England and Spain at war
October 1585 Elizabeth sent Drake to raid Spanish new world settlements with the aim of distributing Phillip 2 finances-but Drake only angered him so Phillip told the pope to invade England at the end of 1585

March 1587 Elizabeth order Drake to attach Spanish navy.
He travelled to Cadiz on the 19 April and destroyed 30 ships and fleet provisions
Attack on Cadiz was know as singeing of the kings beard
Drake then spent several weeks attacking the coast of Portugal and captured 1 of Spain’s treasure ships the Armada had to be broken to defend itself from Drake this delayed the Armada by a year
