Other Welding Processes Flashcards
Electron Beam Welding
High density fusion process carried out by bombarding the joint with a highly focused beam of energy electrons.
Laser Welding
Solid state ruby lasers or carbon dioxide gas lasers.
- Can produce very narrow deep welds
Diffusion Welding
Solid state process, no melting. Bond achieved by atomic bonding through pressure and heat
Explosion Welding
Uses explosive material to produce force needed to produce bonding through high-speed impact
- Sold state
- Bond without heat-affected zones (HAZ)
Friction Welding
Generated through friction between the parts being joined at the point of contact.
Thermite (or Thermit) Welding
Heat generated by chemical reaction.
- Used to weld rail
Electro-gas Welding (EGW)
Gas metal arc conducted between cooled shoes as in Electro-slag Welding.
Instead of slag, the electrode is melted by an arc that burns in a shielding gas. A special flux cored wire is often used with or without a separate shielding gas.
Electro-Slag Welding (ESW)
Layer of molten Slag covered the upper surface of the weld melting filler metal and adjacent parent metal.
