In Service Material Effects (10) Flashcards

1
Q

Cyclic Loading

A

Repeated or fluctuated stresses below the tensile strength

- Application is on areas of pre-existing localized stress and fatigue and initiate Fatigue Cracking

Q

Cyclic Loading

A

That application of additional stress on a repeated basis that will cause the dislocation of atoms at the point of stress.

  • Stress loading can be above or below the elastic limit
  • Sharp edges, notches, keyways etc
  • from tearing, grinding, cracks, laps, pits

Q

Operational Wear

A

The application of cyclic or static loading working in concert or independently depending on movement of parts during operation that causes sudden material degradation.
