Q

How do i investigate the range of concentrations of salt or sugar solutions on the mass of plant tissue

A
  • Use a cork borer to cut out equal-sized cylinders from a potato.
  • Cut them to the same length using a ruler and scalpel
  • Blot them gently to remove excess moisture, and weigh each chip using a balance. Record the initial mass.
  • Set up a series of labeled boiling tubes or beakers with different concentrations of sugar or salt solution
  • Place one potato chip into each tube.
  • Leave them in the solution for at least 30 minutes, or longer if specified.
  • Remove and weigh again:
  • Take out each potato chip.
  • Gently blot dry with paper towel to remove excess solution (do not squeeze).
  • Re-weigh and record the final mass.
