Q
How do i investigate the range of concentrations of salt or sugar solutions on the mass of plant tissue
A
- Use a cork borer to cut out equal-sized cylinders from a potato.
- Cut them to the same length using a ruler and scalpel
- Blot them gently to remove excess moisture, and weigh each chip using a balance. Record the initial mass.
- Set up a series of labeled boiling tubes or beakers with different concentrations of sugar or salt solution
- Place one potato chip into each tube.
- Leave them in the solution for at least 30 minutes, or longer if specified.
- Remove and weigh again:
- Take out each potato chip.
- Gently blot dry with paper towel to remove excess solution (do not squeeze).
- Re-weigh and record the final mass.
