Testing for sugars
A
- Add 5cm3 of each food solution into each test tube making a note of which solution is in which tube
- Add an equal volume of Benedict’s solution to each test tube.
- Fill a beaker with hot water from a kettle
- Add test tubes to the beaker. Wait for a positive result = Yellow

A
- Add 5cm3 of each food solution into each test tube making a note of which solution is in which test tube
- Add a few drops of iodine solution to each test tube.
- Observe and note the solution with a positive result = black

A
- Add 5cm3 of each food solution into each test tube making a note of which solution is in which test tube
- Add an equal volume of biuret solution to each test tube.
- Observe and note the solution with a positive result = purple

A
- Add 5cm3 of each food solution into the each test tube making a note of which solution is in which test tube
- Add 2cm3 of ethanol solution to each test tube and shake vigorously
- After shaking add 2cm3 of water to each test tube. Observe positive result = white cloudiness
